The project aims to develop attractive types of period tickets in the area of leisure and occasional transport for various target groups catered for by the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV). These groups consist of housewives, senior citizens, schoolchildren, and trainees, but also people with full-time jobs who up until now have not had weekly, monthly, or annual period tickets. In order to get further information about the needs and desires of these target groups, concrete concepts concerning an innovative fare structure are being worked up in eight creative focus groups. At the same time, the old types of period tickets are not being neglected; they are likewise being tested to gauge their attractiveness and find possible options for improvement.
The RMV is one of Germany's largest public transport systems, combining regions that are very differently structured, so special attention is also being paid to the differences between large, medium, and small towns and rural areas. This explains why half the focus groups are taking place with people from the area in and around Frankfurt am Main, while the other half in-volve an equal number of participants from the town of Giessen and its surrounding administrative area. There are 8 - 10 people in each group.
The intention is to then quantify the results of this study and the prototypes that have been developed in a subsequent representative survey.
