Future Fleet – Acceptance and User Behaviour

Vehicle properties must be compatible with everyday mobility schemes

Together with Öko-Instut, SAP and MVV we will interview our partners’ employees about their mobility behaviour. Afterwards we will identify those target groups, whose mobility schemes are compatible with the vehicles and their range. As soon as the cars have been acquired and are in use, we will conduct surveys on problems occurring in everyday use. These surveys will focus on capacity, usability and practicability of the charging process and the booking system. Furthermore we will evaluate whether electric cars can be integrated into daily routines as easily as conventional cars.

User acceptability as key issue

Whether electric mobility schemes offering -beside ecological advantages- the same properties as conventional mobility concepts can be established still needs further research. If nevertheless it is to be successful, users need to not only accept these new concepts passively, but also to adopt them actively. In this context practicability is a requirement, but equally important are emotional, symbolic and image aspects. These aspects will therefore also be part of the surveys, determining pleasures and annoyances in using the new mobility forms. The social environments’ reaction and compatibility with expressions of personal life style will also be interesting and relevant issues.

The project’s findings will be used to improve technical infrastructure and charging systems and to adjust vehicles properties to user demands. Furthermore conclusions can be drawn for other companies regarding opportunities for electric mobility and jointly used vehicle fleets.
