Prof. Becker completed his studies in communications
engineering, mathematics, physics, philosophy and sociology at
the Technical University in Darmstadt and the Goethe University
in Frankfurt am Main. He did his doctoral work in theoretical
solid state physics at the Technical University, Darmstadt, then
did research work at Yale University, USA and Goethe University,
Frankfurt am Main, where he was Professor for the Study of
Science and Higher Education from 1972 until his retirement in
2000. He held various guest professorships (including, Kassel,
Rio de Janeiro, Mexico) between 1984 and 1993. His current
research concentrates on
methodological issues in social ecology, complexity theory and
the philosophy of science. Egon Becker is a co-founder of ISOE.
